Who Are We?

The CBS Group, is run by Russ Brewster and Steve Cook who are both former founder members of Alpha Connection, the well known dance band. The band was formed in 1989 and the agency grew up alongside, principally to provide alternative bands when Alpha was not available.

Russ and Steve set up the agency in its own right in 1995 and were joined in March 2000 by Nigel Smith, leader of the show-band Star, when the business became The CBS Group. 

Known principally as a band management company, looking after Star, China Grove, Souled Out, The Mix, LA Tour, Hot Stuff, The Superdolls, Danny Foster’s Big Soul Corporation, The Vodka Martini’s and All That’s Jazz, The CBS Group has grown to become a full service entertainment provider, with the facility to manage events on behalf of clients and offer a complete range of entertainment including speakers and celebrities.

Steve Cook

Director

The former drummer of Alpha Connection, Steve is a director of The CBS Group, specialising in the provision of after-dinner speakers but also with a great depth of knowledge and experience of bands and other entertainers. Steve also works as an informal Master of Ceremonies, Auctioneer etc. for charity balls and other major events, where a formal red-coated toastmaster is not required. When not hard at work, Steve is to be found playing golf, acting as vice-chairman of governors at a local secondary school in Drayton, or following the fortunes of Lincoln City Football Club, The Mighty Imps! 
Russ Brewster
    Director

 

The former trumpet player with Alpha Connection, Russ is the ‘band specialist’ director of The CBS Group, although he also has an encyclopedic knowledge of the other aspects of the entertainment business. Russ also DJ’s when the time allows, Under the guise of Quantum Disco Russ enjoys a residency at The Marriott Hotel in Portsmouth and performs at other prestigeous venues along the South Coast. A keep fit fanatic, Russ spends his time at the gym and on cross country runs, while some of his weekends are taken up with acting as an instructor for The Duke of Edinburgh Awards scheme.
   
Nigel Smith 

 

Director

The band leader of Star and technical director of The CBS Group, Nigel celebrated his 25th year in ‘the business’ in 2006.  Nigel is a consumate professional who is dedicated to providing an exciting stage show with Star and advising clients on their PA, lighting and other technical requirements. Nigel is a keen sportsman, playing football and cricket for his local village teams and golf whenever time allows.
   
Kelli Houlsby

 Kelli joined The CBS Group in 1998 and apart from a short spell with another company and a maternity break, has been with us ever since. During her time with the company Kelli has learned all there is to know about The CBS Group and our bands and entertainers. Currently she acts as our assistant event manager, advising clients on their entertainment requirements and as our very own Graphic Designer producing most of the promotional material for the The CBS Group and our acts. Kelli also handles the day to day accounts, produces our Newsletters and keeps the website up to date.   Currently Kelli is working part time, spending the rest of her week with her son Jamie who was born in Feb 2007 and her dog Winston.
   
Frankie Chambers

 Frankie joined CBS Group in 2009 and is responsible for all our administration, she’s also the cheery voice on the end of the ‘phone when you call our offices! Aside from handling all new enquiries and managing the artist & client contracts, Frankie deals with all our new acts and with her flair for photoshop she is taking over most of the in house Promotional material from Kelli. Having studied Performing Arts at College Frankie has a keen eye for new and exciting acts and placing them in events, rumour has it she can also sing & dance…although we are still waiting for her to perform in the office!
