Expansion Team Freestyle at The M&IT Awards

The UK’s only Freestyle Football Team, Expansion Team, which is exclusively represented by The CBS Group, appeared at the M&IT Awards event on 22 February 2010 and took the place by storm! In front of an audience composed mainly of event managers and corporate travel specialists, who have ’seen it all before’ Conor and John put in a sensational performance which brought the biggest applause of the whole football themed event. The photographs below show the performance in full swing at the Meetings and Incentive Travel Awards 2010. High praise once again for Star

Nigel Smith took the Star party band to The Royal Chace Hotel on 24 January to perform at a wedding party for the Roberts family. We were delighted to receive an email from Glenn and family, following the party, which reads as follows:

In this day and age one tends to receive telephone calls and emails as routine, thanking the host & hostess for an enjoyable time etc, but on this occasion not only were we receiving these but also an unprecedented number of hand written letters and cards all enthusing about the day, and in particular singling out STAR for their absolutely captivating performances which were often referred to as “the perfect cabaret style” of singing and dance music.

Even the hotel staff commented on STAR as being the most entertaining, professional, and best they had seen with the guests clearly in agreement as they were on their feet throughout.

The repertoire reflected and captured the mood perfectly and ensured the occasion to be a most memorable one for young and not so young alike, all of whom were joining in with vigour some didn’t know they still possessed!

On behalf of Joan & I, Sarah & Karl and all our guests, thank you for making the wedding party something that will be talked about and remembered fondly.

A great New Year Party for Kleeneze

The CBS Group was once again proud to provide the entertainment for Kleeneze’s New Year Gala event at ICC Birmingham on 9 January. Opera on the Run gave an arresting performance as singing policemen, detaining the sales director on charges of wearing the wrong sort of suit – definitely a crime of fashion! After dinner, DJ Minty with his whiter than white smile ensured a full dance floor all night and the sensational Bogus Brothers stole the show with their superb set of classic dance music in their own inimitable style.

Mandy Brinkman, the Corporate Events Manager at Kleeneze, kindly emailed as follows: Our gala dinner for 1,200 people on Saturday at the ICC Birmingham has got to have been our best ever thanks to your superb entertainers. The Opera on the Run police gag worked to perfection, and there were very few dry eyes left in the hall following their wonderful delivery of Nessun Dorma. As ever, Neil as Mr Minty managed our guests and the evening with a great mix of dance music and as for the Bogus Brothers, in all our years of working together, I don’t think we’ve ever booked a better band! Working with CBS makes my job a great deal easier as I know I am guaranteed great acts and a superb service without going over budget.

We are most grateful to Mandy for her kind words and we are pleased to reproduce a couple of photographs below to give you a flavour of the event.

CBS Makes Sweetie Bags…(oh no they don’t, oh yes they do!)

Never ones to fail to deliver upon a client’s request, The CBS Group Team turned their hand to creating Sweetie Bags for the party goers of Tandberg TV. In true Willy Wonka fashion, Russ agreed to deliver 36 bags of Pic N Mix to the Devere Grand Harbour Hotel – beautifully packaged to complement their Pantomime Theme. As well as the Sweeties we sent the Boys & Girls of STAR to provide the music, a pickpocket, 3 magicians, 3 balloon modellers, A Cinderella, A Prince Charming, 2 ugly sisters & an old fashioned sweet stand with Candy Floss & Toffee Apples.

Everyone at the event had a fantastic evening and we at the office enjoyed eating the sweeties which Russ deemed to have ”failed to pass our strict quality control tests”!

Fusion Disco Divas

In what has been a mega busy December for the girls, they say they still haven’t got fed up of Christmas Songs yet! Dressed as “Santas Little Helpers” the girls have rocked with so many different people it’s been like “Christmas Every Day”. Performing at 14 different Christmas Parties, working alongside Top CBS show Bands STAR & China Grove and warming up a mad crowd of Abba Fans before the Abba Divine Girls took to the stage have meant that Kelli & Heather have had plenty of good company & they’ve lost count of how many times they’ve seen Santa! The girls also met a photographer at the Hilton, who took the picture below of them in their festive attire…

After Fusion Disco performed for the Sussex Snowdrop Trust on Sunday 6th December the client Clare wrote as follows: “Thank you so much for Sunday, the Children (& adults!) had a wonderful time! You knew exactly what music to play and get everyone up dancing, which makes such a huge difference. Thank you once again, Best wishes for Christmas & a Happy & Healthy New Year to you all too.”

We look forward to recieving more good comments from happy customers as the month goes on!

Souled Out – from one extreme to the other

Souled Out have had a busy month this December, Yo-Yoing up North to Aberdeen, down to Sunny Brighton, up to Birmingham and various stops in between. Aside from the miles between the gigs John and the band have had some real contrasts between the venues. Not more of a contrast has there been than the week they did a “Skool Disco” set at Butlins Holiday Park in Bognor followed by a Glitzy Charity Ball in the Dorchester Hotel, London! Check out the pictures of Souled Out at each event! Thank goodness there were no mix-ups – John Catherall’s bare legs in the Ballroom at the Dorchester would be enough to put everyone off their cream teas!

The Bands Milometre still has plenty more work to do yet as Souled Out are off to Dubai for New Year to bring in 2010 at The Jumeirah Beach Hotel. We look forward to hearing all about their tales from the middle east in January!

STAR & the Brawn GP Car…

Brawn GP had a lot to celebrate this month as they won both the Constructors & Drivers Championships and they invited STAR to lead the celebrations at their End of Year Party. The guests had a fantastic time dancing the night away with the lads & ladettes from STAR and the band were thrilled that they got to have their picture taken with the car!

Nicole, our contact at Brawn GP kindly wrote after the event to tell us how they’d enjoyed the evening “The band was fantastic on Friday evening. It didn’t take long for the dance floor to fill up and it stayed that way to the very end of the night. And please thank them for allowing our “guest vocalists” up on stage! A great time was had by all – a perfect end to a perfect year!”

Thanks and more thanks

We’ve been snowed under here at The CBS Group office recently so haven’t had time to update the news page until now. We have received a great number of letters and emails thanking our bands and entertainers for the great work they do, so we thought we would publish a round up as follows – with grateful thanks to all those who have written:

Kelli & Heather took their Fusion disco to entertain at The Royal Artillery barracks on Thorney Island in October and Matt White wrote – All went really well. Kelly was fun and helpful, even assisting to sort out our photo slide show. The music was great and helped the party go down a storm.

We provided entertainment at The University Women’s Club in Mayfair for their events in October and were pleased to receive the following email from Lorraine Hall - Once again The CBS Group came up trumps, first, we had the wonderful Pianist ‘Joe’ who played exactly what our bride required and then of course our favourite croupier ‘Alex’ whom the guests loved. Both events went extremely well and I would like to thank CBS, Joe and Alex for helping us make these events so good.

Also in October, Hot Stuff performed for the wedding of Laura Godbold in Chelmsford, Laura emailed as follows: We had the best day ever and the band were incredible. They really made the wedding and everyone said how amazing they were so thank you all so much

At the same time, China Grove performed at a wedding party for the Cohen family at the Chancery Court hotel and Ruth sent this email after the event - China Grove made our daughter’s wedding into a great big party, which is just what we all wanted. The dance-floor was full the whole night through and we and all of our guests had a great night. Graham worked so well with both our caterers Jason Millan and our Toastmaster Ian Rothstein, to co-ordinate a really memorable night for everyone. Thank you all so much. A night we will never forget.

Moving into November and Star entertained guests at Vanessa Lambert’s wedding party at Chancery Court, Sandra Lambert wrote by email – Just to let you know we were delighted with the band Star that played at our daughters wedding on November 22nd at The Chancery Court Hotel in London. I think it says it all the guests were invited for the ceremony at 3pm and after a long day the dance floor was still full at midnight!! Many of our guests commented on how good the band was. Our thanks to the band for making the evening such a success.

LA Tour performed for an event arranged by Jo White of Martin McColl, who wrote – LA Tour were once again first class and were really well received by my guests. They have a fantastic range of music and kept the dance floor filled throughout the night. Please pass on my thanks to Dave and the rest of the band.

Joanne Brownridge booked The Mix for her daughter’s wedding party at The Phyllis Court Club in Henley in November, her thoughts on the evening are as follows – We were thrilled with high quality and professionalim of your performance. You knew every song requested and obviously have a wide range of music at your fingertips. The presentation was also great with super lighting and effects. We have had several calls already and all have commented on the great band. The dance floor was busy all evening a good sign of good music.

Star were delighted to be invited to perform at Brawn GP’s end of year party, in what has been quite a tremedous year for Ross Brawn and his FI Championship team. Ross’s PA, Nicola sent this email after the event - The band was fantastic on Friday evening. It didn’t take long for the dance floor to fill up and it stayed that way to the very end of the night. And please thank them for allowing our “guest vocalists” up on stage! A great time was had by all – a perfect end to a perfect year!
